The Shiroka Micro-Season: Why May is the Village's Best Kept Secret

hello world!
The Sweet Spot of the Calendar
While the high heat of July and August brings the crowds to Shiroka, those in the know wait for May. We call it our "Micro-Season"—that fleeting, magical window where the weather, the water, and the garden align in perfect harmony. In May, the air is crisp enough to enjoy the sun without the intensity of the summer humidity, and the village of Shiroka feels like it belongs entirely to the locals and the true seekers of peace. At Shkodra Lake Restaurant, this is the time of year when our terrace becomes a sanctuary, offering a front-row seat to the lake’s most vibrant transformation.

A Symphony of Green and Gold
What makes May truly special is the sensory explosion of the landscape. The Tarabosh mountain is at its greenest, and the wildflowers of the Shiroka plains are in full bloom, scenting the air with a natural perfume that you won't find in any other month. For our kitchen, May is a playground of fresh ingredients. It’s the season of tender wild asparagus, young garlic, and the first "green" olive oils that bring a zesty life to our salads. The lake itself is calm and glassy, reflecting the deep blue of the spring sky, making it the ideal backdrop for a slow, contemplative lunch that stretches into the late afternoon.
